Connecting Dropbox

Dropbox powers the file sharing features in Producer Dashboard. When you share tracks with collaborators, files are delivered through Dropbox. Here is how to get connected.

Producer Dashboard uses Dropbox specifically for collaborator file sharing. When you share a track, the audio files need to live somewhere accessible. Dropbox provides:

  • Reliable file hosting with direct download links
  • Familiar interface for collaborators who may not use Producer Dashboard
  • Automatic file organisation in a dedicated folder structure
  • Works across platforms (Mac, Windows, web, mobile)
  • A Dropbox account (free or paid)
  • Your Dropbox app installed on your computer (recommended but not required)

Click Settings in the sidebar to open the settings page.

Scroll to Connected Accounts or click the Dropbox tab. You will see the current connection status (likely “Not connected”).

Click the Connect Dropbox button. Your browser opens to Dropbox’s authorisation page.

On the Dropbox page:

  1. Sign in to your Dropbox account if prompted.
  2. Review the permissions Producer Dashboard is requesting.
  3. Click Allow to grant access.

Producer Dashboard requests access to create and manage files within a dedicated folder. It does not access your entire Dropbox.

After authorising, Dropbox redirects you back to Producer Dashboard. The connection status updates to Connected and your Dropbox account email is displayed.

Producer Dashboard automatically detects your Dropbox root path. This is important for correctly organising files. For most personal accounts, this happens seamlessly.

If automatic detection does not work (common with Dropbox Business accounts), you may be prompted to manually select your root folder. See Dropbox for Teams if you are using a business account.

In some cases, you may need to manually specify where Producer Dashboard creates its folder. If prompted:

  1. A folder picker interface appears showing your Dropbox structure.
  2. Navigate to where you want the Producer Dashboard folder to live.
  3. Select the location and confirm.

Producer Dashboard then creates a /PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/ folder in your chosen location.

After connecting, verify everything is working:

  1. Check that the status shows Connected in Settings.
  2. Open Dropbox (app or web) and confirm you can see the /PRODUCER-DASHBOARD/ folder.
  3. Try sharing a test track to confirm files appear in the correct location.

Producer Dashboard requests the following Dropbox permissions:

  • Create and manage files in the Producer Dashboard folder
  • Generate temporary download links for shared files
  • Read file metadata for sync operations

The app does not access files outside the Producer Dashboard folder, and it does not modify your existing Dropbox content.

Browser did not redirect back: Go back to Settings and try connecting again. Make sure pop-ups are not blocked.

Connection shows “Failed”: Disconnect and try again. If the issue persists, check that your Dropbox account is in good standing.

Folder not appearing in Dropbox: Allow a few moments for the folder to be created. If it still does not appear after a minute, disconnect and reconnect.
