Collaborator Permissions

When you share tracks with collaborators in Producer Dashboard, you decide how much access they get. Permissions control what each person can see, change, and manage on shared tracks.

There are three permission levels:

The Owner is the person who created the track. There is always exactly one Owner per track.

Owners can:

  • Edit all track details (name, stage, metadata, bucket)
  • Add and remove collaborators
  • Set and change splits
  • Delete the track entirely
  • Share the track with other PD users
  • Create share links
  • Revoke access from any collaborator
  • Transfer ownership (coming soon)

Ownership cannot be granted through the permissions dropdown. It is assigned automatically to whoever created the track.

Editors are active collaborators who need to make changes to the track.

Editors can:

  • Modify track details (stage, metadata, musical attributes)
  • Add and reply to comments
  • Pin and unpin comments
  • Upload new files (bounces, stems)
  • Edit collaborator splits (but not add/remove collaborators)
  • View all track files and metadata

Editors cannot:

  • Delete the track
  • Add or remove other collaborators
  • Change other collaborators’ permission levels
  • Create share links
  • Revoke anyone’s access

Viewers can listen and comment, but cannot change anything about the track.

Viewers can:

  • View all track details and metadata
  • Listen to audio files
  • Read all comments
  • Add new comments and reply to existing ones
  • Download files (if the Owner has enabled downloads)

Viewers cannot:

  • Edit any track details
  • Upload files
  • Modify splits or collaborator information
  • Delete or pin comments
  • Create share links

You set permissions when you first share a track with a collaborator:

  1. Open the share dialog for your track.
  2. Select the collaborator or enter their email.
  3. Choose Editor or Viewer from the permission dropdown.
  4. Click Share.

The default permission level is Editor, since most collaborators you share with are actively working on the track.

You can change a collaborator’s permission level at any time:

  1. Open the collaborators widget or detail modal for the track.
  2. Find the collaborator whose permissions you want to change.
  3. Click the permission badge next to their name.
  4. Select the new permission level.
  5. Confirm the change.

The change takes effect immediately. If you downgrade someone from Editor to Viewer, they lose the ability to make changes right away. Any edits they previously made are preserved.

All permission levels can add comments and reply to threads. This is intentional. Even Viewers should be able to give feedback on a track without needing edit access.

However, only Owners and Editors can pin comments. Pinned comments stick to the top of the comment thread and are visible to everyone, so this ability is restricted to people who can manage the track.

  • Start collaborators as Editors if they are actively working on the track. Downgrade to Viewer once their part is done if you want to lock things down.
  • Use Viewer permissions for managers, A&R, or anyone who needs to listen and give feedback without making changes.
  • Remember that Viewers can still comment. If you need completely silent access (no comments), use a share link with comments disabled instead.
  • Review permissions periodically on long-running projects. People’s roles can change over time.
