Assigning Songs to Projects
Once you’ve created a project, you need to get your songs into it. Producer Dashboard gives you three different ways to assign tracks to projects, so you can use whichever method fits your workflow at the moment.
Method 1: Drag and Drop from the Grid
Section titled “Method 1: Drag and Drop from the Grid”The most visual way to assign songs. This feels natural when you’re scanning your tracks and want to quickly sort them into the right project.
- Find the track (or tracks) in the main grid
- Click and drag it toward the sidebar
- Hover over the project you want to assign it to
- The project highlights to confirm it’s the drop target
- Release to assign the track
The track immediately appears under that project. If you have the project selected in the sidebar, you’ll see it show up in the grid view right away.
Dragging Multiple Tracks
Section titled “Dragging Multiple Tracks”You can drag several songs at once:
- Select multiple tracks in the grid (click one, then shift-click or cmd/ctrl-click others)
- Drag the selection toward the sidebar
- Drop onto the target project
- All selected tracks get assigned in one go
This is especially handy during those sorting sessions where you’re going through a big batch of imports and filing them into the right places.
Method 2: Inline Bucket Dropdown
Section titled “Method 2: Inline Bucket Dropdown”Every track in the grid has a bucket column. This is the quickest method when you’re working through your list row by row.
- Find the track in the grid
- Click on the bucket cell for that row (it might show “No project” or the current project name)
- A dropdown appears showing all your projects
- Select the project you want
- The track is assigned instantly
The dropdown shows your full project hierarchy, so you can pick nested projects too. Start typing to filter the list if you have a lot of projects.
Changing a Track’s Project
Section titled “Changing a Track’s Project”The same dropdown lets you move a track from one project to another. Just click the bucket cell, pick a different project, and the reassignment happens immediately. The track disappears from the old project’s view and appears in the new one.
Removing from a Project
Section titled “Removing from a Project”To unassign a track from any project, open the bucket dropdown and select the “None” or clear option at the top. The track goes back to being unassigned and only shows up in the “All Tracks” view.
Method 3: Bulk Assign with Multi-Select
Section titled “Method 3: Bulk Assign with Multi-Select”When you need to assign a batch of tracks at once, multi-select combined with the bulk edit toolbar is the fastest approach.
- Select the tracks you want to assign:
- Click the first track
- Shift-click to select a range
- Cmd-click (Mac) or Ctrl-click (Windows) to add individual tracks
- The bulk action toolbar appears at the top or bottom of the grid
- Look for the project/bucket option in the toolbar
- Select the target project
- All selected tracks are assigned at once
This method shines when you’ve just imported a large number of files and need to sort them into projects quickly.
Moving Songs Between Projects
Section titled “Moving Songs Between Projects”There’s no special “move” action — you just reassign. Whether you drag a track to a different sidebar project or change its bucket dropdown value, the result is the same: the track leaves its current project and joins the new one.
A few things to note about moving songs:
- It’s instant — The UI updates right away, no waiting for a save
- It’s non-destructive — The track itself doesn’t change, only which project it belongs to
- Due date inheritance may change — If the new project has a different due date, the track may pick up the new project’s deadline (see Project Due Dates)
Viewing Unassigned Tracks
Section titled “Viewing Unassigned Tracks”Tracks that aren’t in any project don’t disappear. You can always see them by:
- Viewing All Tracks (no project filter active in the sidebar)
- Filtering specifically for tracks with no project assigned
This makes it easy to find stray tracks that need a home.
- Assign tracks to projects as you import them. It’s much easier to stay organised from the start than to sort a big backlog later.
- Use drag-and-drop for quick one-off assignments. Use the inline dropdown for working row by row. Use bulk assign for large batches.
- Don’t stress about getting it perfect the first time. Reassigning tracks is instant and free — move things around until your organisation feels right.
