Creating Todos
Comments capture feedback. Todos turn feedback into action. When someone says “the bass needs more low end” in a comment, you can create a todo from it and track the task through to completion — with a due date, an assignee, and a link back to the exact moment in the track.
Where Todos Live
Section titled “Where Todos Live”Todos appear in the todos widget in the activity panel. Open the activity panel, switch to the todos tab, and you see all todos for the selected track (or all your todos if no track is selected).
Creating a Todo from Scratch
Section titled “Creating a Todo from Scratch”You can create a todo directly from the todos widget without an existing comment.
To create a new todo:
- Open the activity panel and go to the Todos tab
- Click the add todo button or use the input field at the top
- Type a description for the todo — for example, “Re-record vocal take for verse 2”
- Press Enter to save
The todo is created immediately. You can then add optional properties like a due date, assignee, or linked timestamp. See Todo Properties for the full list.
Creating a Todo from a Comment
Section titled “Creating a Todo from a Comment”This is where todos really shine. When a comment contains actionable feedback, you can turn it directly into a todo without retyping anything.
To create a todo from a comment:
- Open the comments widget and find the comment you want to act on
- Click the create todo option in the comment’s action menu
- The comment text is used as the todo description
- If the comment is timestamped, the timestamp is automatically linked to the todo
- Adjust the description, add a due date, or assign it if needed
- Confirm to create the todo
The todo now appears in your todos widget, linked back to the original comment. If the comment had a timestamp, the todo also has that timestamp — clicking it jumps you to the right spot in the waveform.
This workflow is especially powerful with comments on shared tracks. A collaborator drops timestamped feedback, and you convert each item into a tracked todo with one click.
Track-Specific vs General Todos
Section titled “Track-Specific vs General Todos”Todos can be scoped in two ways:
Track-Specific Todos
Section titled “Track-Specific Todos”When you create a todo while a track is selected (or from a comment on a track), the todo is automatically linked to that track. It appears when you select that track in the grid and view its todos.
Track-specific todos are ideal for mix notes, arrangement changes, or anything tied to a particular song.
General Todos
Section titled “General Todos”You can also create todos that are not linked to any specific track. These are useful for broader tasks:
- “Set up reverb send template in DAW”
- “Export stems for the entire EP”
- “Email mastering engineer the final files”
General todos appear in your overall todo list and on the dashboard.
Linking a Timestamp to a Todo
Section titled “Linking a Timestamp to a Todo”If you are creating a todo from scratch (not from a comment), you can still link it to a specific moment in a track.
To link a timestamp:
- Create a new todo while a track is loaded in the waveform player
- In the todo creation form, click the link timestamp option
- The current playback position is captured as the todo’s timestamp
- Alternatively, click on the waveform to set a specific position
Later, when you view this todo, you can click the timestamp to jump the waveform to that exact position. This is handy for self-assigned notes like “fix the timing at 2:34” that you want to track as a task.
Todos from Comments: The Flow
Section titled “Todos from Comments: The Flow”Here is the typical workflow connecting comments and todos:
- You (or a collaborator) leave timestamped comments on a track with feedback
- You review the comments and pin the important ones
- For each actionable item, you create a todo from the comment
- The todos appear in your todos widget with timestamps and descriptions
- You work through the todos, checking them off as you address each one
- Once resolved, you delete or unpin the original comments to keep things tidy
This turns a feedback session into a structured task list without any manual re-entry.
Quick Tips
Section titled “Quick Tips”- Do not duplicate effort. If a comment is already clear and actionable, create the todo from it rather than writing a new one.
- Add due dates when you create todos from comments so you do not forget them. See Todo Properties for details.
- Keep descriptions short. “Fix vocal pitch 1:15-1:22” is better than “The vocalist mentioned on the call that the pitch might be slightly off in the second verse section around one minute fifteen.”
